Is Athens easy to get around?
The Metro is very cheap, taxis more expensive and there are buses which are the lowest costs for travel in Athens. However, walking is the best way to see Athens. All the main outdoor sites are within a very small, compact, and easily walkable area. With the exception of the Acropolis, all are pretty much on the flat.
Is it safe in Athens for tourists?
Athens is considered a very safe city, even for solo female travelers. The crime rate is very low and as long as you take normal precautions, you will feel safe here. Most visits are trouble-free, but the theft of passports and wallets are common on the metro and in crowded tourist sights.
Can you see Athens in 1 day?
One day in Athens may not seem like a long time to explore the capital city of Greece, but you can visit and see a surprising number of top attractions with just 24 hours in Athens. Visiting Athens in one day is most likely if you're stopping by at the start or end of a Greek island hopping itinerary.
It really depends on how keen you are to squeeze in a look at the Acropolis and/or a look round one of the major museums. It's your holiday so if you aren't desperate to see the sights in Athens and skipping the city makes sense, do it. There are plenty of places to stay near the airport without going into Athens.
